Friday Night Pairs 2011

The Gala Dinner held on September 2nd 2011 to celebrate the end of our season of nine competitions held between May and August this year.

We had an average of 40 players each meeting during the course of the season and only had just one rained off Friday.  Nevertheless some brave carefree mad golfers still went out.  Well done!

This year’s competition was hard fought with only 3 points between the overall winners and second place.

The winners therefore were Anita and Russell Adams who came in with 147 points having played only 6 games in all.  Second were Ann and Ray Haynes with 144 points having played 7 games and third place went to Violetta Laraya and Martin Sanders with 139 points and having played 8 games.  Great scores!

A special vote of thanks to Sue Walder-Davis who took over from Ann Haynes in running the FNP and who did a fantastic job in organising the whole season.  Sue has volunteered to once again give her time and effort in organising next year’s meetings for which the `Friday Night Pairers` are most grateful.

Well done to everybody who played during the season and we all look forward to next year’s competitions.

Any one interested in joining the fun in 2012 and who has not played before please let Sue or myself know.  The tee times usually start from 5.00pm and it is a 9 hole competition played with your partner followed by a light supper.  The entrance fee for next year has not yet been set but as a guide 2011 was £23 per entrant including supper and prizes.

Mens Section Reports

MENS SECTION REPORTS

July 2011

SCRATCH TEAM: GARY NASH

I am pleased to report that the Scratch team won their 3rd fixture of the season beating Welwyn garden city 9-3.

TIGERS TEAM: RICHARD MURRAY

In July the Tigers have beaten Old Fold Manor 3-2 away and beaten Harpenden Common 3-2 at home and we are currently still top of the league. We also won 3-2 in an away friendly atPortersPark.

FOXES TEAM:CHRIS CASSERLY

6th July    Brookmans Park away – Lost 0.5 – 5.5 – One off the finest courses the foxes had a pleasure to play on.
13th July  Northwood home – Lost 2.5 – 3.5
18th July  Porters Park away ( rescheduled to 24th Aug)
21st July  Verulam away – Cancelled
28th July  Ashford Manor away – Draw 3.0 each

We have managed to get a full team for each fixture despite the holiday season and there seems to be plenty of enthusiasm from members for the foxes section. Both visitors and our own foxes enjoy the golf and the social side of these fixtures immensely. The foxes festival was very well attended and a very successful event despite the inclement weather.

Sudbury Hill has invited the Foxes to play at Sudbury to reciprocate the hospitality after the Foxes Invitation.

RABBITS TEAM:
RAY HAYNES

We have played two of the three schedule matches winning 3 1/2 to 2 1.2 at Stanmore.  This is a very good result as we rarely win at Stanmore.  Our home match against Sandy Lodge was halved 3-3 exactly the same result as the earlier away match. Our final monthly match takes place on 26 July and will be captained by Ian Buchanan.  Six players represented Batchworth at the Aldenham Invitation and Ray Haynes’s team finished in second place, just one point behind the winners.  We have a team of two contesting the Grimsdyke Invitation on 25 July.  It does not look likely that our match atSudbury, lost due to inclement weather, can be rescheduled as theSudburycourse is too heavily booked.  Our match play competition is nearly the semi-final stage with three players already winning through.  We have four matches arranged for August, three at home and one away.

The Juniors top the table!

Match Reports:

Hadley Wood & The Shire

Monday 25th July- The Shire

After suffering a couple of heavy losses in a row to Ashridge and Hadley Wood we were determined to get a good result and start to compete in the league. We came up against a young Shire side and came away with a fantastic victory of 14-2. Gareth Jones and Eddie Daniel led the charge and won their match early on. They then polished off all four points in style on the 16th. The closest match of the day came in the second group where Chris Jones and Dan King had a spectacular match. The match contained two chip in’s and a few birdies. The match ended in a very fair result of two points each. The two back groups of Charlie Blake and Krishan Patel and also Ollie Blake and Greg Sheen both secured the full four from their matches fairly comfortably. It was a big result for us and has really brought us into contention for the league. Thanks to Dan Blake who came as a reserve and also Ollie Blake for being vice captain.

Wednesday 27th July- Hadley Wood

Many of the team were apprehensive about the trip to Hadley wood on Wednesday after being well and truly thrashed 1-15 at Batchworth earlier in the season. However it seemed our already good week was about to get even better. There was a complete reversal of the previous fixture as Batchworth were the ones who came away with 15 points whereas Hadley Wood only gained 1. Yet again it was Gareth Jones and Eddie Daniel who started the charge securing all 4 points yet again; they were starting to become a very successful partnership. The brothers Charlie and Ollie Blake also came away with all 4 points, both having faultless weeks in the league. The last two groups Chris Jones and Dan Blake and also the brothers Michael and Connor O’Loughlin won their matches 3 and 1 and 3 and 2 respectively after both halving the front nine and giving away half a point each. Thanks to Gareth for being vice captain. It has been a truly fantastic week for us that now sees us at top of the table with three fixtures remaining. Let hope we can continue our great run and fight our way into the final.

Juniors suffer defeat to Hadley Wood

Match Report: Friday 3rd June

V

Hadley Wood

The boys from Batchworth suffered a large setback in their maiden league campaign when Hadley wood came down to play us on the 12th of June and we were comprehensively beaten 15-1.

Gareth Jones and Dom Scott were out first they had a good match in which they were beaten 1 down on 18 but did salvage half a point on the back 9. Next up were Chris Jones and Tom Marsh who lost their match when one of their opponents pitched in from just over 100 yards to birdie 17, win the match 2 and 1 and claim all 4 points for Hadley Wood.

Eddie Daniel and Charlie Blake were out third. They also lost 2 and 1 in a hard fought match but did manage to get half a point for their efforts. The biggest defeat of the day however came in the last group when Ollie Blake and Shay Ahluwalia were beaten on the 15th by their opponents who claimed all 4 points for Hadley Wood.

A big thank you to all the players who all gave it their best on the day particularly thanks to Dom for being vice captain for the match. We have all learned a lot from this match and it has made us all determined to never lose in this fashion again. Hopefully we can come away from the next fixture with a more positive result.

Many Thanks
Chris

A fantastic start to our first league campaign last Sunday as Batchworth Parksecured a 12-4 victory over Whipsnade!

The boys from Whipsnade secured 3 of their 4 points in the first match out where Gareth Jones and Dom Scott came up against some tough opposition however they displayed a lot of fighting spirit to secure a vital point for Batchworth on the back 9. Chris Jones and Tom Marsh found themselves only playing a 1 ball. They won 3 and a half points against their opposition who struggled through on the back 9 to clinch half a point for Whipsnade.

Eddie Daniel and Charlie Blake put in a brilliant performance to win there match in the third group only allowing half a point to get away from them as they secured a solid 3 and a half points.

The best result of the day however came in the last group as Ollie Blake and Shay Ahluwalia thrashed their opposition and claimed all 4 points in the final match. Shay put in a particularly good performance in his match and was the star player. Many thanks to all the players who all put in good performances on the day particularly thanks to Ollie for being vice captain for the match.

Also many thanks to Krishan and Dan who came as reserves. It was a nearly perfect start to our league campaign and we look foreword to many more good results in the coming months!
